Apostasy

Among Travelers there exists a phenomenon known as Apostasy — a state in which a Traveler ceases to follow the Path, whether by choice or as a result of external influences.

Such cases are rare, yet references to them appear repeatedly in conversations within the Tavern and in various passages of the Book. Some Travelers leave the Tavern and are never seen again. Others continue to exist within distant Worlds, gradually losing interest in further journeys and exploration.

The causes of Apostasy remain a subject of study. At times, I consider it a natural course of Essence pursuing a purpose of its own. At the same time, I believe that some of these cases may conceal the gradual influence of Jeet.

According to the most common view, Apostasy rarely occurs suddenly. More often, it is preceded by a loss of interest in the Path, indifference toward discovery, and the gradual acceptance of oblivion as a desirable state.

For this reason, many Travelers regard such cases with caution. Not because they consider Apostates to be enemies, but because they see in them a reminder that any Path may one day be abandoned.
