The Way Back
The more I study Travelers, the more I find myself puzzled by one simple question.
How did they know the way to the Tavern in the first place when they first awakened?
Furthermore, after completing a journey, they return to their Cell without fail, even when the Path has carried them through Worlds separated by unimaginable distances.
I have found references to this subject within the Book, though I have yet to translate those passages thoroughly enough to make any definitive claims. From what I can gather, however, Travelers seem to perceive the return to the Tavern as naturally as breathing, or as naturally as understanding the nature of the Path itself.
Incidentally, according to the account of Traveler #333, he once fell under the influence of Jit during a journey through the Net. After that, he was no longer able to find the way back. Rather than returning to the Tavern, he wandered through random routes, passing from one World to another. Only after a great length of time did he find himself in the Tavern again, seemingly by chance.
Based on his account, I have begun to suspect that Apostasy is not always a conscious choice made by Travelers. It remains unknown how many of them may currently be wandering the Universe, searching for the road home.
